Jean Cottard is a 38 year old Police officer in the region of Lyon. He is a particular man who has literary ambitions and
the vocation of reachin inspector status.
His family, which consists of a father, a brother, Benoit, and a sister, Helene, all still live in the city of Paris and
Jean hasn't seen any of them for severral years, in fact, not since the death of his mother.
But Jean finally has to go to Paris after he receives a letter from his father and he also has some manuscripts to show
an editor there.
Jean meets up with his family and finds that they have all changed: his father is amrried to another woman, Julia. His
sister seems more cynical these days and plays at strange games with her own husband; and his brother is a down and out and
in to drugs in a big way.
He is soon to find out that his step-mother runs an art gallery and his father is a master forger! the step-mother's gallery
is part of the scam. His step-mother is also a prostitute, and his sister is running a gym to keep prostitutes in trim.
As if everything isn't bad enough already, his step-motheris murdered and his father commits suicide. Jean sets out to
find the killer, and it looks like his brother-in-law is in the frame.
